Three years ago, the Georgia Legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill asking the federal government to recognize an interstate compact giving states that join greater powers to manage health care within their borders.
Now, U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-14th District, has signed onto a bill — House Joint Resolution 110 — that would do just that.
“I support the effort of Georgia and other states to take control of health care away from Washington,” Graves said in a statement. “As we have witnessed, the centralized approach of Obamacare has been devastating, causing lost jobs, pay, doctors and health plans. Making matters worse, the implementation has been political and chaotic, as the administration continues to confuse the public with unilateral rewrites and delays.”
“As we work to repeal Obamacare, I believe states and their citizens should be able to pursue health care freedom and choice, and protect themselves from the broken promises and failed policies of the Obama administration,” he said.

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) voted for, and the House passed, the ENFORCE the Law Act, a bill to allow the House or Senate to sue the president of the United States if the president or Executive Branch employees fail to administer or enforce the law as required by Article II, Section 3, of the U.S. Constitution.
“The hallmark of the Obama presidency has become his rewriting and selective enforcement of the law, from unilaterally changing Obamacare to preventing the deportation of select illegal immigrants,” said Rep. Graves. “The president’s behavior suggests he views Congress as an inconvenience rather than a co-equal branch of government. This imperial mindset threatens the stability of our government and erodes the confidence Americans have in our democracy.
“Under the bill that passed today, Congress could have meaningful debate and decide to sue any president who may not be faithfully executing the law as the Constitution requires. If that course were chosen, the public would benefit from hearing the Executive Branch explain its actions in court, and then the Judicial Branch would issue its nonpartisan judgment. Under this approach, checks and balances would be at work, the Constitution would be upheld and our liberty would be protected.”

Two years ago, federal regulators changed the rules on how airlines advertise their ticket prices, saying the change would make the cost of flying more transparent.
Bipartisan legislation introduced in the House on Thursday would undo that change, and the lawmakers behind the bill say it would make the cost of flying more transparent.
“While the DOT had good intentions, the new rule effectively reduced transparency,” said Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) ranking minority member of the House transportation committee. “Consumers haven’t been getting the whole picture of what an airline ticket pays for.”
The bill was introduced two days after a White House budget proposal included hikes in several areas that could impact the per-ticket price paid by fliers. The administration wants a $3.50 increase in the passenger facility charge, a $2 increase in the customs user fee, a $2 increase in the immigration user fee and a 40-cent increase in the TSA passenger security tax.
