Graves Top Conservative at Hall County Candidates Forum
(GAINESVILLE, GA) – Republicans running in the May 11th 9th District special election met today at a forum in Gainesville and leading congressional candidate Tom Graves demonstrated he was the top conservative to fill the unexpired term.
At the event sponsored by the Hall County Republican Party, Graves provided a bold, conservative voice saying conservatives cannot tread lightly when selecting the next Congressman with liberals in Washington pursuing a progressive agenda.
Graves, a former State Representative who spent seven and half years in the Georgia legislature, said he opposes the Cap and Trade tax bill and the Value Added Tax now being discussed in Washington because it adds a new tax at each layer of production.
Graves indicated he will pick up the mantle from U.S. Rep. John Linder, who is retiring from Congress at the end of this term, and work to implement H.R. 25, the FairTax. He has actively campaigned around the country with Rep. Linder and radio talk show hosts Neal Boortz and Herman Cain in support of abolishing the Internal Revenue Service and enacting the FairTax.
Graves said that Washington needs to repeal the unused portion of the $787 billion stimulus package and reduce corporate tax rates while abolishing the capital gains tax if true job creation is to occur.
In a response to a question about our military, Graves said America needs to remain the strongest military force on the planet. He received a large applause for stating the dangers of a President not wanting to call those who attack us on our own soil terrorists, while at the same time President Obama has labeled those who are pro-life, veterans or speak out against our government right-wing terrorists.
Graves agreed that card check, the labor unions attempt to intimidate employees to join a union by signing a card instead of holding a secret ballot vote, was wrong and legislation he would fight against.
In the race to fill Congressman Deal’s unexpired term, Graves is the only candidate endorsed by the Club for Growth, FreedomWorks and RedState’s Erick Erickson.
The Graves campaign is hard at work with only 31 days left until the May 11th special election. Graves continues to meet constituents, going door-to-door to listen to the needs of North Georgia voters.
Graves represented the 12th House District from 2003 until March 23, 2010. Graves announced last May that he would seek the 9th District Congressional seat that was vacated by Congressman Nathan Deal, who is running for Governor. He resigned his seat late last month in order to qualify for the upcoming special election in Georgia’s 9th Congressional District.
