Tom Graves for Congress

Graves Statement Regarding JOBS Act and Zero Based Budget Act

(RANGER, GA) – Former State Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ranger), the leading conservative candidate for Congress in Georgia’s 9th District, said today his legislation will continue with the help of his colleagues:

“Good legislation is created with the cooperation of many and I am pleased to announce that some of Georgia’s great conservative leaders will continue to champion both the JOBS Act (HB 1023) and the Zero Based Budget Act (HB 44).

“I have worked with Rep. John Lunsford, a co-sponsor of the original JOBS act, in the House, as well as Sen. Chip Rogers in the Senate and I am grateful for their willingness to take the baton of job creation to continue its advance.  I am confident in their leadership and ability to move this legislation through the General Assembly.

“In addition, I will continue to look to the leadership of Sen. David Shafer to advance Zero Based Budgeting for Georgia. Whether it’s SB 1 or HB 44 our state will be well served.

“It has been an honor to be an advocate for job creation and transparency legislation during my time serving the 12th House District of Georgia and I will continue to do so if I have the privilege of being sent to Washington. I am glad there are still principled conservatives who will take leadership on these bills and advance the good policy and fiscally responsible legislation that is needed for our state.

“Ronald Reagan, whose principled leadership brought us out of another economic downturn, said it best, ‘There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit.’ I have been honored to work for and alongside the people of Georgia’s 12th House District and have complete confidence, as I continue my campaign to work for Georgians in Washington, in the leadership in the Georgia State House and Senate which will continue to advance true conservative principles with the best interests of Georgians in mind.”

The Jobs, Opportunity, and Business Success Act of 2010 (JOBS Act of 2010) is designed to stimulate the state’s economy by providing tax credits, cuts and incentives to create, expand and attract new businesses in Georgia and contains seven initiatives that are designed to spur job creation in Georgia and recognizes that the private sector, not government, is the driving economic force to recovery.

The Zero Based Budget Act brings transparency to the state budget by requiring open access to state funding records creating accountability from the government to the taxpayer.

Tom Graves, former State Rep. for House District 12, resigned on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in order to qualify for the April 27th special election in Georgia’s 9th District.
