Graves' Momentum Grows with Fannin County GOP Women Straw Poll Win
(RANGER, GA) – With 9th District voters returning to the polls in a little over three weeks, conservative Republican Tom Graves’ momentum grows with today’s straw poll win in Fannin County.
Graves dominated the straw poll that was held at the Fannin County GOP Women’s Picnic, receiving 83 votes or 73.5 percent. Graves’ opponent in the June 8th Special General Runoff Election finished a distant third with only 11 votes.
This was the sixth straight straw poll victory for Graves.
“Our grassroots team is the strongest and most organized group of individuals this part of Georgia has ever seen,” said Graves. “Their support and hard work helped propel this campaign to the front of the pack and Julie and I are thrilled with today’s decisive victory as we head into the runoff election. Thanks to all the GA-9 Freedom Fighters.”

Graves earned 35.4 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s special election which sent him into an expected runoff on June 8th. Winning 11 of the 15 counties and taking a close second place in the remaining four counties in Georgia’s 9th District. Graves has a 12 point lead on his opponent and significantly outpolled him in 14 of the 15 counties in the 9th District.
Since ballots were cast last Tuesday night, Graves has been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland and former 9th District Congressional candidate Bert Loftman.
Graves was one of eight candidates in the special election in North Georgia. He credits his momentum and lead to his strong grassroots effort which involved making 11,403 calls and knocking on over 5,000 doors.
Graves represented the 12th House District from 2003 until March 23, 2010. Graves announced last May that he would seek the 9th District Congressional seat that was vacated by Congressman Nathan Deal, who is running for Governor.
