Tom Graves for Congress

GRAVES ELECTED TO CONGRESS

Wins runoff with grassroots support; positive campaign key to victory

(RANGER, GA) – Commanding a 13 point lead over his opponent, Tom Graves won the Special General Election and was elected to the United States Congress.

Graves received 56.5 percent of the vote in Georgia’s 9th Congressional District (with nearly all precincts reporting.)

Graves, a former State Representative who served in the Georgia General Assembly for nearly eight years, is known for his record of tested, proven conservatism, his legislative expertise and his dedication to reducing government waste.

“Over the last 12 months, my family, team, and volunteers have been untiring in their support, I cannot thank them enough,” said Graves. “Our volunteers made over 26,000 calls, knocked on over 5,000 doors, and responded to over 300 voter contacts.  We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us along the way and are looking forward to serving the people of North Georgia in Washington.”

The Special Election to replace former Congressman Nathan Deal who retired after 18 years to run for governor of Georgia took place on May 11th. It was an eight way race resulting in a run-off between the top two contestants.

“I am deeply honored to have been elected to serve this great country,” continued Graves. “And I am firmly committed to upholding our American principles: less government, lower taxes, and personal responsibility. What our country needs right now are conservatives who will not be swayed by either popular opinion or negative attacks—we need to be the party that leads on immigration reform, on free market healthcare solutions, on cutting government waste, and on empowering the private sector to be the job creators.”

“Americans are tired of the same old politics-as-usual,” concluded Graves. “I intend to serve with a conservative, free market approach, that doesn’t resort to mud-slinging to get the job done. Our tried and true American principles are enough to get our country back on track, all we have to do is roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

Graves, a former State Representative, retired on March 23, 2010 in order to qualify for the May 11th Special Election.
